Qatar Research and Development Complex

Elementa led the sustainability strategy for this masterplan in Qatar which is on track to become the region’s first LEED for Neighborhood Development ‘Gold’ rated development. QRDC is part of a wider strategy to create a value chain between Education City and the Qatar Science and Technology

Park, enabling the commercialization of innovative research in health, energy and water engineering and biotechnology.

Working alongside urban design and landscape designers Elementa have developed, simulated, illustrated and codified strategies that will significantly increase external comfort – essential to make a pedestrian oriented neighborhood successful.

These strategies are embedded within design guidelines for all future development at QRDC alongside requirements for energy management, water conservation and harvesting, health and wellbeing. Working with the support of the LEED ND team at USGBC the project has extended the LEED® framework using familiar credit structures and terminology to address regional environmental priorities and client strategic objectives Elementa also provided strategic direction to the development of MEP infrastructure servicing the QRDC masterplan and the optimization of buried services corridors and service tunnel design. Irrigation, stormwater and condensate harvesting models were used to develop a net zero water strategy for the landscape design.
