King’s College London Learning and Teaching Programme

After being successful in appointment to the King’s College London Framework, we undertook the renovation and refurbishment of the Weston Education Centre and associated facilities. These projects were performed under the Learning & Teaching programme.

The Weston Education Centre (WEC) consisted of full refurbishment and re-ordering of the existing Library and IT Laboratories with refurbishment of 2 Lecture Theatres, 9 Classrooms and Boardroom. The refurbishment works to the lecture theatres involved the installation of a complete new audio visual to enhance the delivery of lectures and experience of students, incorporating features such as lecture capture, projection/display facilities, integrated lighting control, etc. The delivery of the classrooms, lecture/ seminar and group study rooms have two varying specifications depending on usage. As part of the refurbishment works we addressed the inherent overheating and acoustic issues experienced by staff and occupants within the library and lecture theatre.

The computer heavy areas formed a central part of the library and teaching development. The refurbishment works consisted of the installation on new ventilation and heating and cooling systems to address over heating issues within the rooms. The heating and cooling installation was connected to the Colleges centralised chilled and hot water system. The ventilation systems had adaptive control installed to ensure the operated at the optimum level at all times. The complete installation was interfaced to the Colleges existing BMS installation to ensure the Facilities team had full control. The rooms also had full new lighting and lighting control installation and a complete AV upgrade as part of the works.
