What role does the built environment play in social equity, community wellness, and climate resilience?

Increasingly, the conversation about climate resilience is converging with a rising awareness around social justice and equity, as well as the health and wellness of our communities around the world.

Owners, architects, civic institutions, and engineering and consulting experts have an opportunity to come together on projects that not only meet ambitious environmental targets but also address inequity and the role the built environment plays in the quality of life.

In celebration of Earth Day, join us for a special IG|VISION webinar where we examined three project case studies that sit at the intersection of sustainability and community impact.

What does the future look like in a post-COVID-19 reality?

Our work lives have already been disrupted by rapidly shifting technology. COVID-19 has only accelerated that change. Organizations successfully emerging from the pandemic are aggressively taking on digital and workspace transformation.

Following the British Council for Offices (BCO) “Wellness Matters” report published in 2018, its three authors; Ed Garrod, James Pack, and Will Poole-Wilson revisit its guidance, providing unique insights into the current and future challenges of the workplace and adapting it within a COVID-19 context.

Join them as they discuss the acceleration of workspace design transformation, and the need to be agile, collaborative, and brave in the face of new challenges.

How can we enhance the patient experience through design?

Design analytics tools are becoming increasingly powerful in shaping the form, orientation, and façade configuration of healthcare buildings to improve occupant amenity while maintaining focus on environmental performance.

Join James Gungl and David Barker as they explore a patient-centered design optimizing the internal environment for a recent 80,000 m² hospital project. Gain leading-edge insights from recent studies completed across Integral Group globally, assisting our healthcare clients in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How do we prepare buildings for climate change and other global challenges like COVID-19? The future is resilience.

Natural ventilation and daylighting promote occupant comfort, health, and well-being while reducing environmental impact and mitigating risk.

Join Senior Mechanical Designer Thomas Bamber and Associate Sean Casey as they explain the synergy between thermal and visual comfort and how both new and existing buildings can harness the powerful elements of Air + Light to shape a resilient future.

Today’s designs pursue lofty performance goals for people, place, and planet. How can analytics support these goals while minimizing cost and complexity?

Shaping the built environment involves a broad range of design considerations – from resource efficiency and green infrastructure to urban amenity and occupant satisfaction. Early intervention informed by targeted analytics can unlock high-performance design and protect stakeholders from costly retrofits, program delays, and reputation risks.

Join Principal David Barker to learn how to leverage design analytics to take building performance to the next level.

Around the world, companies are making pledges to rapidly decarbonize. Battery storage will help make those promises a reality.

While the building industry continues to strive for Net Zero Energy goals, recent policies requiring all-electric building design are shifting the focus away from energy and onto carbon emissions.

It is now more important than ever to consider how buildings will integrate with the carbon emissions goals with an ever-changing electrical grid. One key to grid integration is battery storage.

Join us to learn how to leverage battery storage in buildings to enable load shifting and optimize battery controls to minimize utility costs and carbon emissions.

What does wellness in the workplace look like in a COVID-19 reality?

The British Council for Offices sets the global benchmark for Class A Office Space. In 2018 it launched “Wellness Matters” – an outcomes-based roadmap to support health and wellbeing in the workplace.

It’s three lead authors – Ed Garrod, James Pack, and Will Poole-Wilson come together to revisit its guidance, providing unique insights into the challenges of re-entering the workplace and adapting it to a COVID-19 context.

In celebration of Earth Day, Integral Group Chief Sustainability Officer Megan White will break down Integral’s mission-driven approach towards environmental design and corporate operations.

This presentation will include a review of Integral’s annual environmental reporting (CSER) and details into the World GBC’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment.

Additionally, Megan will highlight ways in which Earth is positively responding during the COVID-19 pandemic and explore both the potential barriers and opportunities around behavior change related to the climate crisis.

You will walk away inspired with how you may be able to act within your organization regardless of size, geography, or industry.

Improving the environmental impact of the built environment has become a priority in the fight against the climate crisis.

Greenhouse gas emissions responsible for global warming – or carbon emissions – must be reduced dramatically and rapidly. The industry has long focused on operational carbon but has ignored embodied carbon emissions related to the rest of the life cycle stages of buildings – especially in building services (MEP) engineering.

To make well-informed decisions to help mitigate global warming, all members of the design team need to embrace whole life carbon thinking.

This session, presented by Global Lead of Life Cycle Research Louise Hamot, will introduce embodied carbon concepts and present Integral Group’s approach to whole life carbon in MEP design.

The term Net Zero is gaining traction globally – but what does it mean to be truly Net Zero?

Born from challenges of different local standards and approaches to this question, Elementa Consulting initiated the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) in 2017 to change London’s Energy Policy, a system that was failing to keep up with a rapidly decarbonizing electricity grid.

Through determination and collaboration, LETI’s 3-year journey led to publishing its most impactful work in January 2020, the Climate Emergency Design Guide.

Join Elementa associate and LETI founder, Clara Bagenal George, as she explains how this guide has transformed the net-zero design process in London and LETI’s plans for a nationwide rollout.

District energy systems are gaining momentum across the globe.

As traditional “heating-only” systems no longer meet current needs, Integral Group has developed innovative, “next-generation” district energy solutions that offer stellar environmental performance.

These systems provide both heating and cooling, flexibility to accommodate “low-carbon” and “low-exergy” sources, and cutting-edge energy conversion technologies. Using our local and global case studies, this presentation will introduce the “next generation” of district energy solutions, led by Principal Vlad Mikler.
