UC San Diego Supercomputer Center

The design of this new state-of-the-art university supercomputer center encompassed office spaces and a data center, where super-dense electrical loads can exceed 300 watts per square foot. In the data center, Integral Group designed a unique, remotely located, low energy air handling system that easily adapts to hot spots and unusually high spot loads. Other features of the design include a three foot raised floor and the use of 55°F chilled water, which avoids unnecessary dehumidification. In the office spaces, Integral designed an innovative displacement ventilation system that greatly reduces the volume of air that requires cooling. This project improves the building’s energy efficiency over 52% more than California’s strict Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards.
