Treehouse Dallas

Local Austin sustainable home improvement store TreeHouse expanded its Texas footprint with a new flagship store in Dallas.

In line with their belief—that a building’s upkeep and operation should be sustainable with a small footprint — the new store is designed as a leading example of a passive sustainable structure.

Introba (formerly Integral Group) provided MEP, energy modeling, commissioning, and measurement and verification consulting engineering services for this project. By expanding on Introba’s long experience with Net Zero Energy buildings, we identified key strategies to reduce building energy consumption without complicated or elaborate systems. The building’s low-energy systems include high-volume, low-speed fans and overhead LED lighting.

The site also features a photovoltaic array sized to generate enough renewable energy to offset the building’s energy consumption over a year. The TreeHouse stores generate 252,000kWh of energy through a 164.3 kW panel array, and the anticipated annual use is below that, at 248,000kWh. Due to the incorporation of this photovoltaic array, the retail store avoids 377,890 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
