Introba provided mechanical, electrical, public health, energy modeling, environmental design, construction monitoring and management, and fire consulting for the Strand Palace Hotel in London, United Kingdom.

The Strand Palace Hotel centers on the introduction of an efficient new air conditioning system throughout the hotel. Secondary work includes; a thorough refurbishment of its 780 rooms, a refit of the aging electrical system, installation of sprinklers, and replacing a complicated lighting control system.

Some of the challenges were removing or repairing existing 100-year-old services, discovering multiple congested ceiling voids with layers of legacy wiring and services, and removal of large amounts of Asbestos. All while keeping the hotel open at 80-90% capacity.

An analysis of the current radiator-style wet heating system and overall hotel water usage revealed that a much smaller and more energy-efficient system would be sufficient for the hotel’s water use levels.

The success of this project was driven by a strong level of communication and collaboration with the client, the hotel staff, and the manufacturers. The Strand expects to see improvements in business, a reduction in energy consumption, and a rise in room rates following the completion of the work.
