Southern Stove Works Lofts

The historic Southern Stove Works community is located at the north-east corner of Hermitage and Leigh Street, in Richmond. The Stove Works complex consists of three long, red brick buildings that run roughly parallel to each other. Building No. 1 was built in 1895 and was originally a foundry has 47 mostly loft units. Building No. 2 was constructed in 1902 and has 111 apartments. Building No. 3, slightly curved to follow what had been a rail spur, contains 26 units.

Building one is made of steel trusses with a light monitor running the length of the building. Building two is a brick building with large wood beams and columns. Each unit has new bamboo flooring, exposed brick walls. The upper floors have exposed ceilings. Building three is a brick building with wood roof decking and steel columns. A portion of this building has direct access to the pool area.
