PORT PHILLIP ECOCENTRE

The Port Phillip EcoCentre is an independent, community-managed environmental organization that promotes urban sustainability through environmental leadership, education, research, policy development, and community action programs.

The project includes a multi-purpose education and community center in the St. Kilda Botanic Gardens in Victoria, Australia.

Introba (formerly Integral Group) is working with Bourke & Bouteloup Architects on designing a building to be embedded into the Botanic Gardens, camouflaged in certain views, and creating a new public frontage as a regional education hub within the botanic gardens.

With a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) structure, a highly-insulated thermal envelope, a fully electric building design including photovoltaic and energy storage for minimal reliance on the grid, high levels of indoor environmental quality (IEQ), use of Passive House principles, and locally sourced and readily available technologies, the EcoCentre is intended to serve as an exemplar for civic projects in the fight against climate change.

The Port Phillip EcoCentre is targeting Net Zero Energy (operational energy), Zero Carbon (embodied carbon), and 6-Star Green Star certification (Design and As-Built v1.3).

The EcoCentre has been designed to join an exclusive club of around 500 buildings worldwide that will produce more clean energy than they consume and offset all embodied carbon used in their construction.
