Moscone Convention Center Expansion

Moscone Convention Center Expansion

San Francisco, California
United States
Moscone

The Moscone Convention Center Expansion project has added over 350,000 ft² of additional above-grade space in a three-story convention center building.

It includes a ballroom, meeting rooms, mechanical and storage areas, a basement-level exhibition space, a reconfigured loading area, and a pedestrian bridge to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Introba (formerly Integral Group)’s team of LEED Consultants worked very closely with the GBCI review team, as this project was extremely complex regarding its LEED Project Boundary and multi-phased schedule.

Moscone is the highest-scoring LEED-Certified convention center in the United States, with 90 points of a possible 110. It is also the world’s first LEED v2009 BD+C New Construction Platinum Certified convention center.

San Francisco Public Works and San Francisco Travel Association came together with the lofty goal of achieving LEED NC Platinum certification. Beyond the LEED goals, the project is designed to go above and beyond by creating Net Zero Water by using the operational de-watering source for flushing toilets, irrigation onsite and at Yerba Buena Gardens, as well as support the city’s street cleaning efforts by creating an inner-city non-potable water refill station. The design is estimated to save 15 million gallons per year.

The project also hosts the largest photovoltaic array in the City and County of San Francisco.

This municipal project followed additional green material requirements set by the San Francisco Department of the Environment, including, but not limited to, no PVC products within the building.
