Edmonton City Centre Master Plan

The City of Edmonton closed the existing Edmonton City Centre Airport in order to analyze opportunities for a potential development to accommodate a new city centre measuring over 217 hectares. The City’s goal is to create a world-class sustainable community to showcase best practices for carbon-neutral developments.

Integral Group provided energy master planning services and created passive building design guidelines for this highly sustainable project. The biggest challenge faced was gathering relevant data amongst the vast array of public input, client input, and international sustainable development approaches to identify solutions tailored to the specific location, climate and desired outcome.

Innovation was displayed through integrated development solutions such as recycled water systems, innovative storm water management systems and passive design guidelines, which were especially aggressive for the Edmonton area. The energy master plan services resulted in Integral Group’s recommendation to implement and create a new sustainable community on the existing Edmonton City Centre Airport site for the benefit of the region.
