Design Tech High School
Design Tech High School, an addition to Oracle’s technology campus, is a public charter school for California residents that uses a lottery to determine enrollment.
It is designed to be a cutting-edge facility that focuses on STEM education. The industrial-style interior and maker spaces throughout the building create an environment for students to fabricate, invent, and learn. The client’s initial goal was to develop a Net Zero Energy and LEED Platinum building to embody innovation and sustainability.
Introba (formerly Integral Group) provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for this design-build project. The building includes an ultra-low-flow water system which results in 30 percent more water savings than a system designed to LEED baseline standards.
The initial design included recycled water for toilet flushing, an all-electric variable refrigerant flow with central ventilation to yield considerable energy savings above code minimum, and automated windows as a source of natural ventilation. The client was also provided a photovoltaic consultation with information to make their entire campus operate at Net Zero Energy by increasing the campus solar array to include the new Design Tech building.
