ETHEL LANE HOUSE | SETTING THE BAR IN THE OKANAGAN

ON TRACK TO BE THE GREENEST RESIDENTIAL BUILDING IN BC

The Ethel Lane House project involves the design and construction of a 640 SF Laneway House in Kelowna, BC, setting a new standard for ecological conscious living for the Okanagan. Designed to meet the Living Building Challenge (LBC) and inspired by the founding principles of the WELL Building Standard, the building demonstrates net-zero energy, net-zero water and promotes healthy living within a beautifully designed space. Integral Group’s Kelowna team took the lead in the design of this building, working with the owners and local contractor, Encircle.

The building form and envelope feature highly sustainable features such as a R60 roof, R42 walls, ultra windows and south facing monopitch roof for solar photovoltaic panel installation – which will provide all of the energy needs. The building will be 100% cooled using earth tube technology, in conjunction with night purging and shading – the most innovative net-zero energy air conditioning system in Canada.

As part of the net-zero water strategy, rainwater will be collected and filtered to potable standards to serve laundry and dishwasher. Potable water use will be further reduced by the use of composting toilet and high efficiency plumbing fixtures.

The house and MEP systems will use touch pad/app interface – using high-end technology in a user-friendly manner for tracking the performance of this outstanding building.

Integral Group is honoured to be a part of this exciting project!
