Intuit and Sonoma Academy Receive 2019 Acterra Business Environmental Awards

Acterra has announced the winners for the 2019 Business Environmental Awards. The winning projects in the category of Sustainable Built Environment are the Intuit Marine Way Building and the Sonoma Academy’s Janet Durgin Guild & Commons. The award for Sustainable Built Environment rewards a building project that conserves natural resources and promotes the health and well-being of its occupants through innovative sustainable design.

Integral Group provided design services for both of these projects in partnership with WRNS Studio.

The Intuit Marine Way Building is a 185,000 square foot office building in Mountain View, California. Certified LEED Platinum, the building incorporates healthy, beautiful, and energy-efficient design that integrates with its natural surroundings and support the collaborative spirit of the campus. Integral Group provided electrical design, daylight modeling, and photovoltaic design services. We examined daylight distribution patterns under sunny and overcast conditions in order to measure daylight levels across the floor plans and to understand the impact of potential interior partitions. We then worked with the architects to orient the buildings to maximize the amount of daylight throughout the day.

Sonoma Academy 1200x500

The Janet Durgin Guild & Commons at the Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, California is a new 19,500 square foot student center that is seeking LEED Platinum, Zero Net Energy, WELL Education (Pilot,) and Living Building Challenge Petal certification. It is the first building in Sonoma Academy – and of its building type – to target all of these sustainability goals. The new building features digital studio and maker spaces in addition to multiple kitchens and dining areas. Integral Group provided electrical, daylighting, lighting and photovoltaic design services for the project. The PV panels are estimated to produce enough energy for the building that the project will be Net Positive.
