Exploratorium and LinkedIn ZNE Offices Receive Acterra Sustainable Built Environment Award

Since 1990, Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards (BEA) have celebrated sustainable business practices in the Bay Area by recognizing over 200 businesses, government agencies and non-profits in their achievement in reducing environmental impact.

This year Integral Group projects, Exploratorium and Linkedin ZNE Offices at 880 Maude, received BEA Awards in the Sustainable Built Environment category:

Exploratorium | Sustainable Built Environment Award

This internationally acclaimed science museum’s new home is on San Francisco’s historic Piers 15 and 17, bringing life to a formerly dormant section of San Francisco’s waterfront. Integral Group performed the mechanical engineering, plumbing design, and fundamental commissioning for the building. The building is designed to be a zero net energy and net zero carbon building. It houses an observatory, public exhibitions, classrooms, programs, a restaurant and café, a museum store, a national center for teacher development, event space, laboratory space, exhibit fabrication spaces and workshops, and ancillary offices.

Linkedin ZNE Offices at 880 Maude | Sustainable Built Environment Award

LinkedIn wanted their new Sunnyvale office to be both beautiful and energy efficient. In an effort to significantly reduce the building’s carbon footprint, they renovated an existing 1970’s concrete building. A 245 kW photovoltaic (PV) array was installed on the roof to offset the building’s energy needs. A large, vaulted atrium in the building’s center is filled with trees and plants, providing a biophilic space for casual meetings and shared meals.

Integral Group provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing concepts and full design of the electrical systems. We also performed daylighting design and sustainability consulting services.
