Stuart Hood Presents at 2018 Greenbuild

Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is the face to face experience for sustainability in the built environment. It’s for professionals in architecture, construction, engineering, planning, and interior design who depend on thoughtful and ethical solutions which promote wellness and resiliency in construction and urban development.

The theme for Greenbuild 2018 is Human x Nature | The Intersection of Humanity & The Built Environment. The green building movement embraces all of humanity by making sustainable buildings and environments accessible to everyone, and in doing so, benefits the natural environment all around us. We are helping people understand their role in protecting and preserving the natural environment and leveraging the built environment.

Integral Group is proud to be represented by Managing Principal Stuart Hood, as a presenter in the session:

Ventilation and Energy Recovery in High-Rise Residential Buildings

The Emergence of Innovative Approaches to Improve Energy Use, Space Efficiency and Occupant Health

Education Track: Built to Perform | Thursday, November 15, 2018 | 3:00pm – 4:00pm

Air-to-Air Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) is rapidly becoming the means to achieve better multi-family residential buildings. Code requirements, energy savings, tighter envelope design, the benefits of balanced ventilation, and an array of certification options (Passive House USA, LEED for Homes, WELL) are driving the massive expansion of this approach to healthy and efficient breathing environments.

An array of ERV variations is now available to designers, each with different advantages and disadvantages. The spectrum of approaches to residential energy recovery ventilation systems has broadened to extend from centralized, whole-building systems (the traditional solution) to small, decentralized units integrated into various parts of the dwelling (a variety of emerging solutions) to provide even greater energy, space, health, and cost benefits. A diverse panel of professionals will discuss ERV’s and their performance metrics, code requirements, and certification criteria (Passive House USA ).

Four ERV-type case studies– centralized, in-suite, fan-coil-integrated, and exterior-envelope-integrated – will be presented comparing respective trade-offs of system costs, energy use intensities, high-rise suitability, and other characteristics. The panel will help equip the audience to draw conclusions about the most appropriate ERV approaches to their own projects, with solid information on costs and benefits that could be expected from each.
