Mary On Presents Passive House Child Cares (Made Easy!) at NAPHN18

North American Passive House Network’s 2018 conference (NAPHN18) convenes in a hotspot of Passive House design and construction: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thanks to a strong professional base, innovative governmental policy supporting Passive House, and a community of forward-thinking developers and housing agencies, Pennsylvania is home to one of the largest concentrations of major Passive House and other deep green development on the continent.

The theme for NAPHN18 is Passive (House) First: It’s About Resilience – Not Just Rating Systems.

Integral Group is proud to be represented by Project Manager, Mary On, as a presenter in the session:

Passive House Child Cares (Made Easy!)

Solutions Using Passive House II | Saturday, October 20, 2018 | 3:15pm – 3:45pm

Designed by Acton Ostry Architects, the City of Vancouver Gastown Child Care project provides two child care facilities atop two existing parkades in downtown Vancouver. Both buildings are designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, with a 30% reduction in energy use over the requirements of the current Vancouver Building By-law, and to achieve Passive House Standard Certification with a focus on net zero energy and low carbon fuels sources.

This presentation will review the challenges and opportunities of designing and building two identical Passive House buildings, seven storeys above the ground on existing parking structures in a dense urban environment, with a developing supply chain.
