Brianna Coston Teaches ElumTools at Pacific Energy Center

Please join Lighting and Daylighting Specialist, Brianna Coston, as she leads a class at PG&E Pacific Energy Center:

ElumTools for Revit Software Training: Lighting Documentation and Simulation | Tuesday, April 17, 2018 | 9:00am – 4:00pm

ElumTools is a lighting software plug-in for Autodesk Revit that allows lighting designers to calculate and view lighting schemes in a platform integrated with the architectural design in an expedient yet accurate manner by using photometric data along with material and geometry properties from Revit models. It was created by Lighting Analysts, the same company that created AGI32 and Photometric Toolbox. More and more projects are using Revit as their main design and production tool, and with ElumTools, now lighting designers can also actively design projects within Revit. This course will be a deep-dive into the best practices for integrating Revit into the electric lighting design process.

Students must bring their own laptop for this class.  If you do not have a licensed version of Revit 2017 or 2018 available on your own laptop, you should install a free 30-day student version of this software in advance of the class any time after March 19th, 2018.  You will also need to install a student version of ELUMTools from Lighting Analysts, Inc.  Instructions will be available when you register.

Objective

The objective of this course is at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Create and run successful simulations for electric lighting in ElumTools.
  • View and interpret results produced in the program.
  • Have experience with modifying lighting families in Revit.
  • Identify several common mistakes and know how to fix them.
About Brianna

Brianna is a Lighting and Daylighting Designer with Integral Group in Oakland, CA since early 2016. She is devoted to human driven design with a focus on how occupants interact with their space. Brianna understands that lighting design has an impact on every user within a space and that good lighting can have a positive effect on the productivity, physical health and mental health of the occupants. Simultaneously, lighting can be one of the most energy-intensive building systems, and Brianna works daily to develop sustainable solutions in lighting design.

While at Integral Group, she has worked on a variety of office, multi-family, residential, and education projects in the Bay Area. Brianna has used ElumTools to aid in design for five projects including the Half Moon Bay Public Library. Using simulations and renderings produced in the program, the team was able to present the client with a variety of accurate lighting design options integrated with the architecture in a quick and efficient manner. Prior to joining Integral Group, Brianna worked at Westlake Reed Leskosky as a Junior Lighting Designer where she assisted in the design of office and lab spaces as well as the St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at Ground Zero in NYC. Brianna graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2015 with a B.S. in Architecture, focused in Building Technology. She is also a Junior Associate member of the IALD.
