St Lukes Phase II at Cheltenham General Hospital completes.
A new, state-of-the-art, £16.5million wing at Cheltenham General Hospital has opened its doors to patients. St Luke’s Wing is the second phase of a multi-million pound development at the hospital site and has been built to the highest specification to provide the best possible care for patients.
The new wing comprises of two rehabilitation and stroke wards and a Department of Critical Care, which combines the hospital’s former Intensive Care and High Dependency Units. Creating a new facility dedicated to critical care and rehabilitation at Cheltenham General Hospital turned out to be exemplar of ProCure21 partnership. The design and construction team included main contractor Costain, Davis Langdon as Cost Manager and Elementa Consulting as M&E Consultant.
Sustainability
Computer modelling was completed to define maximum summer temperatures which meant the Trust can stay within NHS energy targets. Windows were designed to give natural ventilation to both the Rehabilitation and Stroke wards. In order to maximise daylight, bedrooms were pushed to the outside of the envelope with inboard en-suite bathrooms on single bed wards. Integral blinds in glass walls and windows provide maximum infection control, while maintaining balance between patient privacy and effective clinical monitoring.
