| Under the Carbon Reduction Commitment, all companies with an energy bill of £1m or more per year will, from April 2010, be required to report their energy usage, and to buy carbon credits to cover the resulting greenhouse gases. Retailers, banks, hotels and other service sector businesses, as well as hospitals and local authorities, will have a year's grace to cut energy usage.
