White Lodge Centre recipient of a ‘Special Judges Award’ at the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2009
Elementa, working closely with architect Broadway Malyan, provided full mechanical, electrical and public health detailed design, including heating, hot and cold water, ventilation, above ground drainage, electrical power, lighting and data, fire alarms and security. The project involved the creation of a centre to provide Children and Young People’s Service (ChYPS) and Adult and Community Support Services (ACSS). It includes a respite centre providing residential care for children with cerebral palsy and the adults centre which provides therapy rooms creative arts, leisure, life skills and information technology suites.
The centre was designed with no ceiling void which presented Elementa with a number of challenges. The close working relationship within the design team enabled the services to be integrated into the structure of the building. Understanding of current regulations enabled the introduction of sustainable elements such as natural ventilation, solar shading, low energy lighting and daylight dimming in order to reduce capital and operational costs.
